Equipment

The aim of the new Raimond Castaing Microanalysis Centre is to provide a range of analytical instruments of the highest European level to the researchers of Midi-Pyrenees working in various fields (materials, minerals, etc.) with specific requirements in multi-scale analysis of solid materials.

The Castaing Centre provides an essential addition to the electron microscopes already in the various laboratories. We offer solutions that respond to needs for local chemical analysis by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM or TEM-EDS), wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (WDS-microprobes) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (TEM-EELS).

The 12 instruments installed at the Castaing Centre are an integral part of the development of research into nano-objects, nanoparticles, nanomaterials, nanostructured materials, or minerals and nano-phases.

These fields of research require very high magnification microscopic characterisation, and analysis at the nanometric scale. This is made possible by microscopes of the latest generation, well fitted out with the required accessories and given the support of innovative preparation equipment. Half of this equipment was bought conjointly by the CNRS, the State, the Region and Europe as part of the CPER (Contract of the State-Region Plan) 2007-2013.
